Groo wishes the children of the world a very unmerry Christmas! – Marvel Age #61
December 6, 2014
Marvel Age, Marvel’s “coming soon” book of the 1980s, had a bit of a running cover tradition around Christmas time: placing Sergio Aragones’ classic character Groo the Wanderer in some holiday predicament. Up above is one of these, sort of the inverse to the ending of A Charlie Brown Christmas. Dry your tears, kids, the limbs will grow back by the time you’re forty!
Only Groo could use children’s Christmas tree as tinder and skewers for his evening repast and make us love him for it. And please note the special senses-shattering seasonal cameo by Forbush Man!

Cool and funny Christmas “throwback”. I love “Groo the Warrior” and I love Sergio Aragones’ work! His stuff was the best thing about Mad magazine (along with the fold-in back covers)!
