Apes, the old-fashioned way
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the follow-up to the surprisingly entertaining, similarly-focus-grouped-to-death-titled Rise of the Planet of the Apes, opens later tonight.
I should hopefully have a review up at some point soon, if I can get off my lazy rear and hammer it out. And to celebrate this sequel, it seems as good a time as any to rehash the above cover, which was featured in a post from two and a half years ago, and which still stands as one of the top images ever to grace this blog — if not the best. Apes in coonskin caps — need we say more? (The only true challenger to its goofy supremacy is “Frank Castle Dangles From Helicopter While Stabbing Villains Through A Haze Of Cash,” a Joe Jusko masterpiece.)
Anyway, happy Ape Day or whatever. Go ape.
Loved that Apes magazine- I read the reprints published in a weekly here in the UK. Was quite sophisticated for the time, as I recall. That’s an amazing cover!
