When Brooke Shields breezed through the DC offices

August 29, 2011

Brooke Shields was a tad before my time and was never really my thing. She could be quite striking, but the eyebrows were too Neanderthal for me. I can easily imagine, however, that she cut quite a figure in this visit to DC back during the early ’80s peak of her post-Blue Lagoon fame. And I’m sure more than a few ink-stained wretches looked up from their desks and drawing boards to catch a glimpse as this barely-legal/not-quite-legal starlet posed awkwardly with a Superman comic.

She’s still a good-looking woman, but she had a certain something extra when she was younger. I mean a younger woman, not a girl.

Like Jennifer Connelly, when talking about the looks of young Brooke one always has to put in the “young, not young-young” disclaimer. As you did there, and as I would have done if making the same comment. Otherwise the perv-patrol sirens start blaring. Such are the pitfalls of Brooke-talk.

Yes, it’s a shame really. I usually hate all that PC nonsense, but most people associate Brooke with just one movie – the Blue Lagoon – which she did when she was about, what? 15? I’ve never even seen it.
